What is the CEFR word list, and where does it come from?
The CEFR word list follows the Common European Framework of Reference (A1โC2). Our list is the first Croatian CEFR word list ever โ created by croDict from 25 million searches since 2006 and manually validated by native speakers. Curriculum advisor Jurica Romiฤ additionally refined it into A1.1 / A1.2 sub-levels.
Why do I even need a CEFR classification in a dictionary?
When you learn Croatian in a structured way, the CEFR level is the only reliable anchor for knowing: "Am I supposed to know this already?" In preparation for the planned Croatian A1.1 language test for migrant workers, a per-word CEFR classification is even decisive.
Which languages are translations available in?
Currently: German and English. In progress: Nepali, Filipino, Bengali, Hindi โ the most important languages of migrant workers in Croatia. As soon as the translations are in our database, we unlock those languages automatically.
Are the example sentences generated by an algorithm or real?
The example sentences come from our Tutor curriculum โ written for real learning situations (construction work, care work, restaurant, government office). They aren't textbook clichรฉs but sentences you'll actually need.
Is the dictionary free?
Yes, the online dictionary is completely free. It's part of ivana.hr, the language course by the makers of croDict โ our answer to the lack of good Croatian resources for migrants.
